About Flower Language

Hi, I’m Amanda, the owner and lead designer behind Flower Language.

My love for flowers started early, crawling around my grandmother’s garden while she worked outside weeding or gathering stems for the kitchen table. She always kept fresh flowers in the house, and arranging them together became one of the quiet rituals we shared.

Her favorite flower was the classic purple bearded iris. I’ll admit it wasn’t my favorite as a child, but over the years it has grown on me in the way meaningful things often do.

Those early days in her garden shaped how I see flowers today: lush, joyful, a little wild, and full of life.

They also taught me something deeper: that flowers have an incredible ability to transform a space. Whether it’s a simple breakfast table or a celebration surrounded by family and friends, flowers bring warmth, beauty, and a sense of occasion to the moments that matter most.

Today, Flower Language is rooted in that same spirit.

Based in Asheville and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, I design garden-inspired arrangements that celebrate the seasons and reflect the natural beauty of this region. As a lifelong gardener, I’m endlessly inspired by what’s growing and blooming around us, and I love incorporating local and seasonal flowers as much as possible.

The name Flower Language comes from the Victorian tradition of sending secret messages through flowers. Entire dictionaries were once written to decode the meaning behind each bloom.

While we may not rely on those dictionaries today, I still love the idea that flowers carry meaning and that they help us express emotion, mark milestones, and tell stories.

The iris in our logo honors both that tradition and my grandmother’s favorite flower. Fittingly, the meaning behind iris is “message”.

And that’s what flowers do best. They help send a message and tell the story of a moment: the joy, the gathering, the people who matter most.

Ritual and celebration are such meaningful parts of the human experience, and it’s truly an honor to create floral designs that help bring those moments to life.

I can’t wait to hear about what you’re dreaming up!
